What Do We Think 3D Is?

My experience with 3D was in movie theaters wearing special eyeglasses with one red lens and one cyan lens. The picture on the movie screen is actually two pictures; one created with a red filter is superimposed on the other that is created with a cyan filter. The two pictures, each made with separate side-by-side cameras are slightly out of registry with each other, left to right. If you look at the screen without those 3D glasses you see this, and you see clear indications of red and cyan color at the edges.  When you look through the glasses, one eye sees the picture from one camera and the other eye the picture from the other camera.
