Why an Atheist Thinks the Shroud of Turin is the Real Deal

They are burn holes, nonetheless, no matter how they were formed. The cloth was folded in half lengthwise and then in half widthwise when it happened. This is evident as there are four matched  repetitions of the holes showing progressive levels of burn penetration. We know that the poker holes were not made during the Chambéry fire of 1532 because a painting of the shroud, the Lier Shroud painted in 1516, before the fire, shows the burn holes. This painting is thought to have been made by Albrecht Durer or Bernard van Orley. We don’t know when the burn holes were caused, but we can be quite certain that it was more than 300 years earlier, as we will see.
